  18. Microsoft LAN Manager file transfer protocol (FTP) clients may not be
  19. allowed to establish a session with a Windows NT FTP server even
  20. though they have a valid user account on the Windows NT machine.
  21.  
  22. CAUSE
  23. =====
  24.  
  25. LAN Manager FTP clients that use the TCP/IP Utilities for LAN Manager
  26. require a password to attempt to establish a session with an FTP
  27. server.
  28.  
  29. Even if a blank password is valid for the Windows NT user account,
  30. such as the Guest account, the LAN Manager FTP Client will not be able
  31. to establish a session.
  32.  
  33. RESOLUTION
  34. ==========

  36. To work around this problem, use the User Manager to add a password
  37. (which is not blank) to any user account that will be establishing a
  38. session with the FTP Server.
  39.  
  40. To modify or add a Password to an existing account, in the User
  41. Manager, highlight the appropriate account, select User, choose
  42. Properties, and enter a password in the two Password fields.
  43.  
  44. It is also possible to configure Windows NT to require a password for
  45. all user accounts. To configure Windows NT to require passwords, in
  46. User Manager, select Policies, choose Account Policy, and change the
  47. Minimum Password Length option to 1 character or more.
  48.  
  49. Windows NT FTP clients do not require a password with their account to
  50. establish a session with a Windows NT FTP server.
